Jon Rahm Gives Up Remainder of $300M LIV Golf Contract as Part of Separation Agreement
It appears that Jon Rahm was willing to do anything to get out of his LIV Golf contract, even if it meant leaving a massive amount of money on the table.
It appears that Jon Rahm was willing to do anything to get out of his LIV Golf contract, even if it meant leaving a massive amount of money on the table.
Per ESPN's Mark Schlabach , as part of Rahm's separation agreement with LIV Golf for the return of his exclusive name, image and likeness rights, the 31-year-old gave up the remainder of his $300 million contract. Schlabach noted that "it is believed that Rahm was owed more than $100 million over the remainder of his contract," which he signed in December 2023 after leaving the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf.

According to Schlabach, court records showed that Rahm was LIV Golf's largest unsecured creditor, and he "was owed $7.5 million when the league voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 protection on Sept. 8." A month later, it appears that he was owed much more.
During his three-year LIV Golf tenure from 2024 to 2026, Rahm made nearly $107 million in on-course earnings. He was the season-long individual champion in all three years in the breakaway league.
Despite his success while competing in LIV Golf, Rahm's attorney, John Beck, informed U.S. Bankruptcy Court of New Jersey Judge Michael B. Kaplan on Oct. 7 that his client won't be joining LIV Golf 2.0.
"Mr. Rahm has independently reviewed the proposed terms of LIV 2.0 and has determined that those terms are unacceptable to him, and he will not be participating going forward in LIV 2.0," Beck said at the time.
Kaplan is expected to approve Rahm's separation agreement from LIV Golf on Nov. 5. The two-time major champion is scheduled to play in the Abu Dhabi Championship on Nov. 5-8, the second-to-last event of the DP World Tour season. Schlabach noted that it is "unclear how quickly Rahm will be allowed to return to the PGA Tour if that's what he desires."
