PGA Tour Golfer's Caddie Quits Mid-Round During Biltmore Championship

Golfers and their caddies head into PGA Tour events hoping to make the cut and compete for the title over the course of four rounds.

Well, Alejandro Tosti's caddie didn't even make it through one round at the PGA Tour's Biltmore Championship Asheville on Thursday.

Adam Schupak of USA Today's Golfweek reported Tosti's caddie, Cliff Ellis, "dropped the bag, took off his caddie bib and walked off" on the 18th hole of Thursday's round. Since Tosti started on the 10th, it was just his ninth hole of the day.

According to Schupak, "Tosti and Ellis were already at odds on Tuesday during a practice round."

Still, the golfer was left "blindsided" by the move and initially thought his caddie was using the restroom.

"He couldn't keep up with eight pars in a row," Tosti texted with multiple laughing emojis when asked about what happened.

Schupak noted the golfer, who was suspended in 2023 during the Korn Ferry Tour playoffs due to "expletive-filled outbursts," is someone who is known for rotating through a number of caddies.

Ellis' departure didn't stop Tosti from shooting a one-over 71 in the opening round.

After a string of 10 pars to start his round, he tallied three bogeys and two birdies on the final seven holes. He will have to play better during Friday's second round to make the weekend, though, as the projected cut as of 12 p.m. ET is two-under.

Tosti is scheduled to begin his second round at 1:49 p.m. ET.
