"Yeah, I think for me personally, anyone who's the president of this country, I respect that position, obviously," Burns said. "I've actually got to spend some time with President Trump, and we've played golf together a few times.

"I think you just have a ton of respect for that position, and being an American, I think it's very important that we do support our president, regardless of your political views.

"I think if you look at our country now, it seems more divided than ever, and hopefully we can get back to the point where all Americans come together, and we're all trying to kind of reach the same goal."

Trump's attendance at the Presidents Cup will require a significant security operation, with extensive planning needed to transport him to and from Medinah. His travel arrangements can also disrupt people in the surrounding area.

He explained: "Well, I think for starters, being able to play for your country and represent 11 other guys and all the captains and all the spouses that are here, I don't take that lightly. I think it's a thing when you're playing; these weeks kind of fly by, and I think one day you really look back and have a ton of appreciation for what it means to represent your country and be on these teams.

"I think all of us guys that are on this squad, there's nothing more we want to do than to go out and win and represent our country well, and that's the plan this week."
