Hundreds turn out for Bristol's Jacob Elordi lookalike contest

Hundreds of people turned out to watch a Jacob Elordi lookalike contest which saw youngsters don their finest tote bags and slouchy sweatshirts.

The event, which took place on College Green, was organised by Overheard at UoB - a social media community dedicated to life at the University of Bristol.

Acclaimed Australian actor Elordi is best known for his roles in The Kissing Booth, Saltburn, Frankenstein, Wuthering Heights, Priscilla and the HBO series Euphoria.

Despite some worthy competitors performing their best catwalk struts and Australian accents, the title was awarded to a 17-year-old girl who did not want to be named.

An estimated 500 people showed up to watch the contest unfold.

Jamie Crook, who recently moved to the city from Oxford, said he was shocked at the large turnout and "had jelly legs the whole time".

He said: "I loved it, it was so fun. I'm still kind of shaking now.

"I think it's a really good way to make friends and get to know people.

"I feel like one of the most famous blokes in Bristol for a day, which is an experience."

The veterinary medicine student even took the time to thank his doppelganger directly, acknowledging the boost to his street cred.

"For the better half of seven years, since the Kissing Booth came out, Jacob Elordi has carried my dating career," he laughed.

"Every time he cuts my hair I show him a picture of Jacob Elordi and he just sorts it out.

Crook explained the accent round was his downfall.

He blamed his croaky impersonation on a lingering "fresher's flu".

Joey Lush secured second place in the competition after trawling through Pinterest for outfit inspiration and "grabbing a tote bag from the fresher's fair".

He said: "He's a very stylish guy, so I tried my best.

"I did not realise what I was signing up for - I was a bit nervous going up."

"The winner did an amazing job," he said. "I'm so okay with it, I lost fair and square.

"I saw her in the line and she was the only one I wouldn't have been... hurt about losing to.

"I think it was her moustache that sold it."
