Presidents Cup Friday live scores, updates: Scottie Scheffler, Sam Burns again leading U.S. team in foursomes matches at Medinah

It wasn't a totally dominant start, but the United States is taking a one-point lead into the second day at Medinah Country Club.

The U.S. team jumped out to a 3-2 advantage over the International team after the opening-round four-ball session at the Presidents Cup on Thursday. They won three of the five matches on the day, including what was a tense battle between the pairing of Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns and Min Woo Lee and Sungjae Im.

Scheffler and Burns managed to take the lead on the 17th after a slow start, and nearly chipped-in from the bunker at the last, to grab the 1UP win. That marked Burns and Scheffler's first international win together.

Play continues on Friday with a series of five foursomes matches, or alternate shot matches. Scheffler and Burns will lead the way again, but will go up against Corey Conners and Nick Taylor this time.

Friday's outing will set the stage for a doubleheader on Saturday before Sunday's singles matches close it out. The first team to 15.5 points will claim the cup. If the Americans can pull it off, they will win the event for an 11th straight time.
