Kyler Murray injury update: Vikings QB cleared to start in Week 3
The Vikings are set to welcome Kyler Murray back to the lineup for NFL Week 3 after the QB suffered a concussion in the season opener.
The Minnesota Vikings ' long sought sense of quarterback normalcy might not be far off.
Starting quarterback Kyler Murray has been cleared from the concussion protocol and is set to start the Week 3 contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers , coach Kevin O'Connell announced on Monday, Sept. 21.
Murray was knocked out of the season-opening win against the Green Bay Packers on the third series of the game. After scrambling to his right, the signal-caller took a big hit from Packers safety Javon Bullard and edge rusher Lukas Van Ness .
He was replaced in the game by backup Carson Wentz , who went on to start the Week 2 victory over the Chicago Bears .
In Sunday's rain-soaked divisional matchup, however, Minnesota was held without a touchdown. Wentz completed 11 of 20 passes for just 143 yards.
Murray, who signed a one-year, $1.3 million contract with the Vikings this offseason after being released by the Arizona Cardinals in March, was named Minnesota's starting quarterback in August following a brief competition with incumbent first-stringer J.J. McCarthy . Wentz was installed as the backup while McCarthy was relegated to an emergency role .
