Track Cycling World Championships 2026: Great Britain win two golds
Great Britain claim gold in the women's team pursuit and the men's scratch race at the World Track Cycling Championships.
Great Britain secured gold medals in the women's team pursuit final and the men's scratch race on day two of the World Track Cycling Championships.
Erin Boothman, Anna Morris, Josie Knight and Millie Couzens overturned an early deficit in the team pursuit final to beat world champions Italy by more than five seconds.
In the scratch race, Matthew Bostock made his move for glory at the halfway point and held on to the lead to take his first world title in Shanghai, China.
Henry Hobbs, Noah Hobbs, Ethan Vernon and Ollie Wood also won bronze for GB in the men's team pursuit, defeating France in the bronze medal ride-off.
Bostock, 29, also earned a bronze for riding in the earlier rounds of the team pursuit.
Denmark beat Italy in the gold medal race - their fourth consecutive title in the event.
GB men 'on back foot' as women take silver
Meanwhile, Sophie Capewell - who won silver in the women's team sprint with GB team-mates Rhianna Parris-Smith and Emma Finucane on day one - advanced to the semi-finals of the women's sprint.
Capewell, 28, took two victories against China's Jiang Yulu in the best-of-three quarter-final, and will be joined Finucane, who won the sprint title in 2023 and 2024, in the last four.
GB's preparations for the championships have been overshadowed by Matt Richardson's withdrawal from the squad amid reports he is under investigation for misconduct.
British Cycling confirmed the 27-year-old Olympic medallist's removal in a statement but did not give a reason.
Richardson, who had been expected to contend for medals in the individual sprint and keirin, said he would co-operate with a British Cycling investigation into the allegations.
