Harmanpreet Kaur reveals India’s final mantra ahead of Asia Cup Final vs Sri Lanka : 'Nothing new, nothing different'

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur believes her team’s all-round progress throughout the Women’s T20 Asia Cup has given them the confidence to take on Sri Lanka in Sunday’s final at the Dubai International Stadium.India have been unbeaten in the tournament and will be determined to reclaim the continental crown after Sri Lanka defeated them in the 2024 final. With another title clash against the same opposition now on the horizon, Harmanpreet wants her side to stick to the basics rather than make any major changes.Harmanpreet backs India’s steady improvementIndia have continued to find ways to improve as the tournament has progressed, with Harmanpreet highlighting the team’s development in all three departments.“I think so far the tournament has been really, really good for us. We have seen massive improvement, whether it’s batting, bowling, or fielding, day by day. We’re getting used to these conditions and coming up with some really solid performances,” Harmanpreet said in a BCCI video.The captain believes adapting to the Dubai conditions has also helped India become more comfortable as the tournament has progressed.‘Nothing new, nothing different’ for IndiaWith a trophy at stake, Harmanpreet does not want her players to overcomplicate the occasion. Instead, the India skipper wants the team to trust the plans that have taken them to the final and approach the title clash with a positive mindset.“All set for the trophy. Hopefully, we’ll come up with some really positive approach,” she said.Harmanpreet later summed up her approach to the final simply: “Nothing new, nothing different, just sticking to our strength, to our plans and, at the same time, enjoying yourself on the field.”Experience giving Harmanpreet confidenceThe Asia Cup has also been a tournament of milestones for India, with Harmanpreet completing 150 matches as captain while Smriti Mandhana has also reached significant run-scoring landmarks.For Harmanpreet, the presence of experienced players throughout the squad has been a major source of confidence.“Every day we’re celebrating some great milestone, whether it’s Smriti’s runs or me representing the 150th game as a captain. So I think every day, it's good to see that so many girls are coming up with good performances and good milestones,” she said.“I think you need a team where you have so many members with so much experience. I think that gives me so much confidence, leading a side which has so many runs behind, wickets behind,” she added.India face fielding challenge in finalWhile India have been impressive overall, their fielding remains an area that needs attention. The team has dropped nine catches across four matches, a statistic that could prove costly against a Sri Lankan side that has already demonstrated its ability to fight under pressure.Sri Lanka produced a remarkable comeback in their semifinal against Pakistan, recovering from 33/4 before successfully chasing down a target of 131.
