A'ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces moved to the semifinals after beating Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever in Game 3 on Thursday, winning the first-round series 2-1. However, Wilson became involved in a controversy during Game 2 on Tuesday in Indianapolis, where she confronted a fan who pointed at her and said something after she was fouled by Sophie Cunningham.
The fan was not ejected, and the league is not punishing Wilson for the incident. People have been divided in the aftermath, with Wilson having several defenders, including former NFL star T.J. Houshmandzadeh. The former Pro Bowler defended her during the "Speakeasy" podcast, though he also said he believes the fan did nothing wrong.
"I don't think A'ja Wilson did anything wrong. I don't. I don't think the fan did anything wrong. I don't think either of them did anything wrong," he said.
During the incident, Wilson confronted the fan who was pointing at her and was yelling, "That was on you." It was more of a verbal confrontation and did not lead to anything physical, as Houshmandzadeh pointed out during the podcast. Houshmandzadeh did admit that he believed Wilson overreacted and added that she should not have doubled down after the incident.
A'Ja Wilson Has Already Put Incident With Fan in Indianapolis Behind Her
For Game 3 on Thursday, A'Ja Wilson had a double-double performance with 36 points and 10 rebounds, leading the Aces to a 94-83 win at home and moving on to the next round. She addressed the verbal altercation during Game 2 and said she has already put the incident behind her.
"I have my moments because I'm human," she said. "But after a while, I understood I didn't want that to be a distraction to myself and my team, and I knew what we had to do coming into tonight. So I put it behind me. I prayed a lot. I cried a lot."
The Aces now await the winner of the Golden State Valkyries vs. Dallas Wings series, which is currently tied at 1-1. Should they move on to the finals, they will face the winner of the Atlanta Dream vs. New York Liberty series, which has yet to begin.
