‘He has done everything’: Tim Southee backs Bhuvneshwar Kumar after India recall

Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s recent performances have proved that class and skill can endure. The experienced seamer’s return to India’s T20I set-up has earned the backing of former New Zealand pacer Tim Southee, who believes Bhuvneshwar has all the ingredients to make a significant impact once again.“He has done everything he possibly could to deserve another call-up. He is a very skilful, experienced bowler who knows his game better than ever before,” Southee said about the pacer, who took 28 wickets last season at an economy rate of 7.92 for IPL champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The former New Zealand captain believes the time away from international cricket could prove beneficial, allowing Bhuvneshwar to return with renewed enthusiasm.“He will be thrilled to have another opportunity, one he probably did not think was going to come. He can enjoy his time in the Indian jersey ... There is no reason why he cannot have a lot of success when he returns to international cricket,” he said.In an era increasingly captivated by raw pace and spectacular variations, Southee believes Bhuvneshwar will bring control.Bhuvneshwar’s ability to harness the new ball, maintain discipline through the middle overs and close out innings makes him a valuable resource.“He’ll be energised by the opportunity to play for India again. He’s a very experienced player who has bowled as well as ever to earn this recall,” Southee said.Southee also backed Mohammed Siraj to flourish in New Zealand.“There is a lot to like about Siraj. The energy he brings, the way he runs in all day and the type of bowler he is, there is no reason why he cannot have a lot of success in New Zealand,” he said.(Watch India’s tour of New Zealand live and exclusive on Sony Sports Network and Sony LIV starting Oct 22, 2026.)Stay updated with the latest Asian Games 2026 news, check the Asian Games medal tally and complete Asian Games schedule.Get the latest Sports News and Live updates.
