After Kagiso Rabada, South Africa lose another pacer as Ottneil Baartman ruled out of Australia ODIs

South Africa have suffered a fresh injury setback ahead of their three-match ODI series against Australia, with seamer Ottneil Baartman ruled out after sustaining a left hamstring injury.Cricket South Africa confirmed the development on Sunday, with Duan Jansen named as Baartman’s replacement in the squad. Jansen will join the South African camp in Durban on September 19 ahead of the series opener.Baartman ruled out with hamstring injuryBaartman was not part of South Africa’s ongoing ODI series against Namibia, which is their first 50-over assignment since the tour of India late last year. The seamer was part of that India tour but has not featured for South Africa since the T20I series against New Zealand in March.Baartman subsequently played in the Major League Cricket in June and July before returning to competitive cricket for the Dolphins in their opening CSA 4-Day Series Division 1 fixture against the Titans this week.However, he bowled only five overs in the Titans' sole innings and did not return to bat in the Dolphins' second innings. CSA subsequently confirmed that the 32-year-old had suffered a hamstring injury.Duan Jansen gets another opportunityJansen, meanwhile, has been rewarded for his impressive performances during South Africa's ongoing limited-overs campaign. The left-arm seamer made his ODI debut against Namibia and immediately made an impact, finishing with figures of 4/31 in the second match of the three-game series.With South Africa already 2-0 ahead in the series, Jansen was one of three changes made for the final ODI. His latest call-up gives him an opportunity to stake a claim for a regular place in South Africa's ODI setup ahead of a challenging series against Australia.South Africa already without Kagiso RabadaBaartman's injury adds to South Africa's concerns in the pace department, with Kagiso Rabada also unavailable as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury.
