Kieron Pollard surpasses Jos Buttler, reclaims world record for most runs in T20 cricket

Former West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard has become the highest run-scorer in T20 cricket after going past England batter Jos Buttler's tally during the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026.Pollard entered the record books on Thursday when he scored 65 off 26 balls for Trinbago Knight Riders against Saint Lucia Kings at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba.The former Mumbai Indians player needed 35 runs before the match to move past Buttler, who had 14,890 T20 runs.Earlier this year, Pollard had overtaken Chris Gayle to become the highest run-scorer in T20 cricket. Buttler then moved ahead of him in August 2026 while playing for Manchester Super Giants in The Hundred. Pollard has now reclaimed the top spot.The 39-year-old now has 14,921 runs from 666 innings in 749 T20 matches.Pollard will get a chance to become the first player to score 15,000 runs in T20 cricket when Trinbago Knight Riders face Barbados Tridents at the same venue on Friday (Saturday IST).His innings came at a strike rate of 250 and included six fours and five sixes while chasing a target of 212 for the Andre Russell-led Trinbago Knight Riders.The five sixes also took Pollard's career tally to 1,010 sixes in T20 cricket. He is now 47 sixes away from Chris Gayle's record for the most sixes in the format.Pollard and Gayle are the only players to hit more than 1,000 sixes in T20 cricket.
