The BCCI has reportedly settled on bringing the IPL 2027 mini-auction back home to India, by moving away from the overseas trend that's defined the last few years.

According to Cricbuzz , this call came out of Tuesday's IPL Governing Council meeting on September 15, which is one of the biggest takeaways from that sit-down.

Ever since the 2023 auction wrapped up in Kochi, the franchises have found themselves flying out for these events, with Dubai, Jeddah and Abu Dhabi all taking turns as hosts. That pattern breaks this year, though, as the board has chosen an Indian venue for what will be a mini-auction rather than a full-scale one. However, the bigger mega auction slated for next year might still end up overseas.

Franchises had voiced their concerns about the headaches of shipping their entire delegations abroad just for a smaller mini-auction, and this decision seems to reflect that pushback.

The BCCI reportedly took stock of these complaints, especially after last year's Abu Dhabi edition left several teams grumbling about logistics and costs. With that feedback in mind, the Governing Council has now agreed to look at Indian cities as potential hosts for this year's event.

BCCI hasn't yet narrowed down on the city. As always, it comes down to whether there's enough hotel space to house all the franchises and their teams comfortably.

This year throws in an extra wrinkle as wedding season runs from October through December across India, which tends to gobble up premium hotel inventory fast. So the final venue will hinge largely on which city can guarantee five-star accommodation during that busy stretch.

The BCCI's requirement isn't small either: over 100 rooms need to be blocked for at least a couple of nights to pull this off.

On another front, the fate of the Impact Player rule remains up in the air for now. The Governing Council didn't reach a verdict on it during Tuesday's meeting, and instead chose to revisit the topic at another sit-down scheduled roughly a month from now.

Interestingly, even though the majority of franchises reportedly aren't fans of the rule, many seem to think scrapping it now would be premature. Several teams have pointed out that their squad-building this season was done with the Impact Player rule firmly in mind, and the omission would put others at an advantage.

Their argument boils down to timing, as any call to ditch it should wait until the next mega auction rather than disrupting things midstream.
