CSK teases fans with trade rumour as they post photograph of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Axar Patel

On the auspicious occasion of Diwali, Chennai Super Kings decided to tease their fans with some trade rumours as they were seen sharing a photograph of their captain Ruturaj Gaikwad with star Indian all-rounder and Delhi Capitals captain, Axar Patel.

In the photo, Patel can be seen having a fun conversation with Gaikwad in New Zealand after the second ODI, which India won on Saturday.

In the caption of the photo on their 'X' post, CSK wrote, "Post-game smiles!"

The post naturally fuelled speculation of a possible IPL trade talk between DC and CSK, which could see Patel moving to the five-time champions.

DC have already signed Rishabh Pant right after the end of the IPL 2026 campaign as the experienced wicket-keeper batter returned to the franchise from LSG after two years.

With KL Rahul already in the squad, DC now have two senior stars who are capable of leading the franchise and as a result they could be tempted to release Patel for a sizable amount of in exchange of quality alternative.

A section of the CSK fans were puzzled but most of them seemed elated to see the experienced all-rounder moving to their team. Many fans hailed the decision to include a left-arm spin all-rounder, who can perform the role of Ravindra Jadeja, who left the franchise a year ago to move back to Rajasthan Royals.

Completed trades so far before IPL 2027 mini auction

Net effect of the swap: CSK loses ~INR 2.20 crore, SRH gains ~INR 9.20 crore
