ICC Women's T20I Rankings: Shree Charani creates history, becomes first Indian to cross 800-point mark

NEW DELHI: Indian players have made big gains in the latest ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings after India won a record eighth Women’s Asia Cup title.Shree Charani has strengthened her position at the top of the bowling rankings, while Shafali Verma has moved back into the top six among batters.Charani crosses 800-point markCharani played a key role in India’s Asia Cup final win over Sri Lanka, taking four wickets for 20 runs at the Dubai International Stadium. The left-arm spinner has crossed the 800-point mark for the first time and reached a career-best 804 rating points.It is the highest rating points achieved by an Indian in the ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings in both batting and bowling.Charani has gone past Mithali Raj’s previous record of 780 points in the batting rankings, which she achieved in 2011. She is now just two points away from the highest rating ever achieved by a women’s T20I bowler.Australia’s Megan Schutt holds the record with 806 points, which she reached in November 2018.Deepti moves up to secondDeepti Sharma has also made a big jump in the bowling rankings. The India all-rounder has moved up four places to second after finishing the Asia Cup as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 14 wickets.Seamer Nandani Sharma has climbed 10 places to 94th after an impressive tournament. She was also among the most economical bowlers, giving away only 4.64 runs per over.Leg-spinner Prema Rawat has made an even bigger jump. She has moved up 50 places to 96th.Shafali back in top sixShafali Verma has also made progress in the T20I batting rankings. She has moved up from seventh to sixth after finishing as the Asia Cup’s leading run-scorer with 236 runs.Shafali scored 64 in the semi-final and 68 in the final. Her performances have taken her to 741 rating points, her highest since October 2021. She is now just one place and four points behind teammate Smriti Mandhana. Mandhana is fifth with 745 points after scoring 213 runs in five innings.Shafali has also moved up five places to 15th in the all-rounders’ rankings. She has reached a career-best 221 rating points.Sri Lanka players make progressSri Lanka’s Nilakshika Silva has moved up one place to 44th in the batting rankings. She was the third-highest run-scorer at the Asia Cup with 108 runs.Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu has also moved up one place to 27th in the bowling rankings. Her seven-wicket haul for five runs against Indonesia helped her finish the tournament with 12 wickets. She has retained third place in the all-rounders’ rankings.Bosch makes huge jumpSouth Africa’s ongoing T20I series against Zimbabwe has also led to a major change in the batting rankings. Anneke Bosch has jumped 323 places to 54th after playing a key role in South Africa’s 2-0 lead in the five-match series in Bulawayo.Bosch scored 83 off 43 balls in the first match and followed it with 65 off 31 balls in the second.
