Women's Champions Trophy: ICC moves inaugural T20 tournament from Sri Lanka to India

Next year's inaugural Women's Champions Trophy has been moved from Sri Lanka to India by the International Cricket Council.

Sri Lanka had been due to stage the six-team event but have been stripped of the hosting rights because of ongoing issues with its national board and government interference.

A statement from the ICC said Sri Lanka Cricket is continuing "to make the requisite reforms" which were outlined at the global governing body's annual conference in July.

Bangladesh and South Africa were also interested in staging the tournament but the ICC board ratified India as replacement hosts for the event, with matches to be held in Mumbai and Vadodara.

Unlike the men's Champions Trophy, which is a 50-over-a-side competition, the women's event will be a T20 tournament.

It will be played on a round-robin basis with the top two sides progressing to the final.

Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka are the six teams who will take part, having been the highest-ranked sides at the qualification cut-off date of 6 July.
