India set to host ICC Women’s Champions Trophy 2027

MUMBAI: India’s growing grip on global white-ball cricket strengthened further on Wednesday after ICC awarded hosting rights for the inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy 2027 to the country, further underlining the sport’s commercial centre of gravity.Mumbai’s iconic Brabourne Stadium and Vadodara’s Kotambi Stadium will host the six-team tournament in the T20 format from Feb 14-28, 2027 after ICC stripped Sri Lanka of the event because of govt interference in cricket administration.For Mumbai, the decision adds another chapter to the city’s rich history of hosting marquee ICC events. Brabourne Stadium staged the final of the 2013 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup between Australia and West Indies, while the city’s Wankhede Stadium hosted the unforgettable 2011 Men’s ODI World Cup final between India and Sri Lanka, where MS Dhoni’s India lifted the trophy before a packed house. Across the harbour, Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium hosted the final of the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup between India and South Africa, further cementing the Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s status as a favoured destination for global cricket showcases.The city had also been a venue for the 2006 ICC Champions Trophy, whose final was played at Brabourne between Australia and West Indies.The latest allotment continues India’s dominance as host of the game’s biggest white-ball events. The country successfully staged the Men’s ODI World Cup in 2023 and the Women’s ODI World Cup in 2025, and is also scheduled to host the 2029 Men’s Champions Trophy.
