Los Angeles Rams receiver Puka Nacua did not participate in the team's jog-through on Wednesday, putting his status up in the air for Sunday Night's game against the Denver Broncos .
Nacua missed Monday Night against the New York Giants with a hip injury, which kept him out of multiple practices leading up to the game.
After a day off Tuesday, Rams head coach Sean McVay did not provide a definitive update on the pass-catcher, though he shared his approach to handling a player like Nacua.
"I think it's more along the lines of just seeing how that responds," McVay told the media.
"When you're a skill player and you're trying to hit high speed yards and open up… It's like some of the things that can almost be like pre-hernia is what he's feeling. You err on the side of caution."
Looking forward, Nacua's status will depend on when he reaches the point where time has allowed the injury and discomfort to heal.
"Usually, time is the best thing that allows that thing to heal. Then once you get to a certain point, I think you feel pretty good moving forward," McVay explained.
"But it's not something that, from talking with [Senior Vice President, Sports Medicine and Performance] Reggie [Scott] and our medical group, that we feel like is any sort of long-term threat.
"I just know that he's frustrated, and we all want him to be able to be out there, but we want him to be able to return to performance not just be able to gut through it."
With the season only two weeks old and the Rams' questionable handling of the Myles Garrett injury, the organization will understandably avoid a longer absence for Nacua and keep him upright.
The Rams will need Nacua against a tough Broncos defense, and their willingness to sit him will highlight just how notable his injury is.
