MI head coach for IPL 2027: Kieron Pollard takes over as Mumbai Indians' boss

Kieron Pollard has spent most of his Indian Premier League life in Mumbai Indians colours, and the franchise has now handed him the biggest coaching job at the club.

MI have promoted him from batting coach to head coach, which gives the former West Indies all-rounder a new leadership role at the five-time IPL champions.

Pollard enjoyed a long and successful stint as a player with MI, and he stayed with the team in a coaching capacity once his playing days ended. He now takes charge of the whole setup.

The appointment follows Mahela Jayawardene's decision to step down as head coach on October 17, 2026. The change comes at a moment when the franchise is looking to put a disappointing 2026 season behind it.

Pollard played for MI from 2010 to 2022 before moving into the coaching staff ahead of the 2023 season.

"It is an honour to take on the role of Head Coach of Mumbai Indians. MI has been a huge part of my life and career, and the bond I share with this team, the players and the Paltan means a great deal to me" Pollard said.

"Having experienced this journey as a player and then as a coach, I understand what Mumbai Indians stands for and the responsibility that comes with representing the Blue and Gold.

"I am grateful to Mrs. Nita Ambani, Akash Ambani and the entire MI family for their trust in me. I look forward to working closely with the players and support staff, building on the team's legacy, helping our talent grow and giving the Paltan many more reasons to celebrate."
