Smriti Mandhana: India batter becomes leading run-scorer in women's international cricket

India's Smriti Mandhana became the all‑time leading run‑scorer in women's international cricket as she scored a century in the Women's Asia Cup.

The left-hander hit 124 from 64 balls in a 137-run thrashing of Hong Kong in India's second Group A match in Dubai.

Mandhana, 30, now has 10,880 runs in all formats, surpassing former India captain Mithali Raj's 10,868.

"Until I was batting, I didn't know what record because I didn't know what exact runs [I had scored]. But, looking back, I'd say a very good day for Indian cricket," said Mandhana.

India posted 193-5 from 20 overs before bowling Hong Kong out for 56 in 16.2.

Mandhana said Raj is a "legend and a role model", and that going past her record was something she "never imagined doing".

Raj said on X: "I've watched you grow from a young player into one of the finest batters India has produced.

"To see you go past my record and become the highest run-scorer in international cricket is a moment I'm genuinely proud of. Here's to many more runs and milestones. Keep going!"

Mandhana's century was her 18th in all formats, taking her past former Australia captain Meg Lanning's record for the most in women's international cricket.

Group A leaders India face rivals and second-placed Pakistan at the same venue on Saturday.
