Canelo Alvarez's unanimous decision win over Christian Mbilli to capture the WBC super middleweight title drew praise from around the boxing world on Saturday.

Jake Paul and Terence Crawford both congratulated Canelo for the victory on social media.

The performance by Alvarez was particularly impressive considering his last fight was over a year ago, dropping the undisputed super middleweight title with a loss to Crawford in Sept. 2025.

Canelo then underwent elbow surgery before he was able to return, but the 36-year-old didn't show any signs of rust against Mbilli on Saturday.

"It's so difficult to explain," Alvarez said regarding his emotions after the fight, per ESPN's Brett Okamoto . "It's something unbelievable, this feeling. Like my first title. Thirty-one years as a professional. Sixteen years ago, I won my first title. Now, I won the title again. I'm so proud."

He improved to 64-3-2 with the victory, while Mbilli fell to 29-1-1.
