UFC Vegas 121 fight card goes viral for cop vs convict booking with Sedriques Dumas

The UFC has finally put together the ultimate match that pits a good guy versus a bad guy. On Saturday night at UFC Vegas 121 a police officer will fight a convicted felon as Luis Hernandez will step in to face Sedriques Dumas on short notice.

Dumas was originally slated to fight Mickey Gall, but Gall had to pull out during fight week because of an injury. Dumas has been arrested multiple times. Most recently in April 2025 when he was charged with home invasion, battery and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. He settled that case in June . He was also removed from the UFC roster, but that must have just been a contract thing because he's back on the main card of an event three months later. This will be his fourth UFC fight since that latest arrest and second since he settled.

According to WEAR, ABC 3 in Florida, Dumas has been arrested four times since he joined the UFC. Now he has to fight a cop.

Hernandez, a Miami-Dade sheriff's deputy, won a UFC contract on Dana White's Contender Series just two weeks ago. He is 8-0 in his career with five wins by submission and three by knockout.

If ever there was proof that the UFC is stretched too thin, it's this fight. Hernandez has earned his spot in the UFC, but he's stepping into a fight that does not need to exist. Dumas is 1-4-1 in his last six fights. His only non-loss in the last two years was when he had a fight end in a no contest. Dumas was unable to continue fighting after he was hit with an accidental groin strike.

As noted above, Dumas was originally supposed to fight Mickey Gall who burst onto the scene in 2016 when he submitted CM Punk his UFC debut. Gall has dropped seven of his last 10 fights in the UFC including his last four.

However pointless the original bout was, this is a tremendous opportunity for Hernandez.
