Teofimo Lopez Beats Rolly Romero for 3rd Title, Final Judges' Scorecards, Prize Money & Highlights

Teofimo Lopez became a champion across three different divisions Saturday night thanks to his victory over Rolly Romero.

Lopez claimed a majority decision. One judge scored it 114-114, but the two others in Lopez's favor (115-113 and 116-112).

The 29-year-old is now the WBA welterweight champion, having previously earned belts in the light welterweight and lightweight divisions.

Lopez owned a sizable edge in the punching stats. According to CompuBox , he landed 124 total blows to 73 for Romero, including 62 power punches.

Despite what the raw numbers showed, Romero thought he was the better fighter on the night.

"I got hit with two punches the whole fight that barely grazed me," he said, per ESPN's Brett Okamoto . "I was never in any trouble. When I heard 114-114, I knew it was a robbery."

In the fifth round, Romero connected flush with a right hook and then went in with a flurry of blows. Lopez briefly fell to his knees, but the referee didn't call it a knockdown.

That round was Romero's best. After getting tagged, Lopez was sharper and defended much better. If anything, the judges' scores didn't give him enough credit on balance.

This was the kind of performance Lopez needed after losing a unanimous decision to Shakur Stevenson in January. Now, he can look ahead to another big-money fight.

Lopez suggested he could go against the winner of Ryan Garcia vs. Conor Benn, who step between the ropes Sept. 12 in Las Vegas, or IBF welterweight champion Liam Paro. He brought up Devin Haney as well but clarified he'd "rather wait" on that matchup.
