Kapil Pokhariya wins 90kg boxing bronze after semifinal loss to Uzbekistan's Turabek Khabibullaev at Asian Games

NEW DELHI: India's Kapil Pokhariya won a bronze medal after losing his semifinal bout against Uzbekistan's Turabek Khabibullaev in the men's 90kg category at the Nishio Gymnasium in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Wednesday.Kapil went down 1-4 to Khabibullaev in the semifinal and missed out on a place in the gold medal bout.The Uzbek boxer dominated the contest, with four of the five judges scoring all three rounds in his favour.Those four judges gave Khabibullaev a 30-27 win, while the fifth judge scored the bout 29-28 in favour of Kapil.Kapil had entered the semifinal after an impressive quarterfinal victory over South Korea's Kim Gichae.He won the quarterfinal by unanimous decision to secure his place in the last four.Stay updated with the latest Asian Games 2026 news, check the Asian Games medal tally and complete Asian Games schedule.Get the latest Sports News and Live updates.
