Dana White weighs in on Justin Gaethje retirement rumors
Dana White questions whether it's time for Justin Gaethje.
Justin Gaethje has achieved it all in mixed martial arts.
Ranking third all-time in UFC post-fight bonuses despite fighting less than half as many times as the two fighters above him, 'The Highlight' has lived up to his namesake during his time in the octagon. A fun, fan-friendly athlete who is incapable of having a boring fight. The Arizona native could have bowed out of the sport years ago and would still be considered an anomaly. But to cap off an exceptional career in combat sports, Gaethje managed to one-up his two interim titles with undisputed gold in his last outing. The win only added to his legacy, but retirement talk has been closely trailing the 37-year-old for some time.
Likely caused by his own comments, supporters have been preparing for a Justin Gaethje retirement announcement for years. Despite a title-winning performance at the White House, those talks haven't disappeared, leaving many in the dark about Gaethje's UFC future .
Also not knowing what the future holds is Dana White , who has been speaking about his potential return lately. With Gaethje yet to defend his title, White has internalized a potential Ilia Topuria rematch, saying:
"We owe all these guys three fights a year. So guys are always getting offered fights. So, we'll see. And, you know, the big talk is who [Topuria's] going to fight. Is he going to fight Gaethje, or is he going to fight Paddy Pimblett? That is a great problem to have."
Weighing in on Justin Gaethje's potential retirement, Dana White had this to say:
"Not based on his skill level, but based on his last fight and what he accomplished. There's two sides to this coin. If you look at, talk about going out the right way. But he looked incredible. And when you think about how much money is left on the table for him to make. You know, when he still looks good."
