Welcome to Bleacher Report's coverage of the Blood and Guts episode of Dynamite on November 4.
This year's event featured two B&G matches, one for the men's division and one for the women's division.
Will Ospreay led a team against The Don Callis Family, and Willow Nightingale led a team of babyfaces against The Triangle of Madness, Divine Dominion and Persephone.
Let's take a look at what happened at this year's Blood and Guts event.
Renee Paquette interviewed Don Callis and the DCF backstage after Excalibur welcomed us to the show. Callis promised to do a lot of damage heading into Full Gear, which will set up Kyle Fletcher, Mark Davis and Jake Doyle to win gold. We also heard from Will Ospreay's team in a separate interview.
The women's Blood and Guts match got the action started. Megan Bayne was the first entrant for her team. Their team won the coin flip to earn the advantage, so Kris Statlander was going to be outnumbered when the third woman entered the ring. Here is the order of entry for everyone:
Bayne was the first to lose any blood, and it was quite a bit. She was a crimson mess after the first commercial break. Blue was busted open before she even got into the ring, and with all-white gear, the red stood out as she got bloodier.
This match was exactly as advertised. It was absolute mayhem from start to finish. There wasn't a single woman of the 12 who competed who came away from this match without a few cuts and bruises. Even the ones who were not covered in blood will feel this match for days.
Whether you like this or not is going to come down to personal preference. It's not a traditional wrestling match, so it shouldn't be judged like one. This bout was trying to be something different, more violent, and in that regard, it succeeded.
AEW has created a handful of signature matches over the years, but Blood and Guts stands out for the sheer brutality it delivers every single time. The effort these 12 women put into this performance was incredible.
This match took up almost the entire first hour of the show. The babyfaces ended up winning after Hart was forced to tap out to a submission from both Statlander and Cameron, which included some barbed wire wrapped around her face.
Result: Statlander, Cameron, Hayter, Windsor, Nightingale and Aminata won
If you watch the show on HBO Max, that music that plays before it starts really lulls you into a false sense of security before Dynamite comes blaring in with Excalibur excitedly screaming.
Adam Copeland told Mick Foley that he was wearing the same gear that he wore for their match that was so iconic.
Stat and Bayne both brought weapons into the ring, but neither one used them to start.
Persephone brought a briefcase into the ring that contained some of Britt Baker's dental equipment. She tried to use some dental forceps on Statlander.
Blue used a few light tubes that were taped together to hit Statlander as she came to the ring.
Cameron brought two guitars into the ring. Kross broke the first one, so Harley hit her with the second one, which was full of some kind of powder that went everywhere.
Hayter broke a bunch of bottles over the heads of her opponents.
Statlander fell between the cage and apron after taking a powerbomb. It looked painful.
Austin Creed was shown questioning Swerve Strickland about attacking Bandido last week without consulting them. Off in the distance, Kofi could be heard screaming in pain. Bandido was revealed to be the attacker when he took out Creed, and he started brawling with Swerve.
Hangman and Brody King showed up to even the score. Bandido told them he wants to take Swerve's life after what he did last week. They finally agreed to the Texas Death match at Full Gear.
This was a good way to fill some time between the two Blood and Guts matches while simultaneously confirming another match for the upcoming PPV.
Bandido, having just as much of a reason to hate Swerve as Hangman has, is going to make this even more interesting to watch unfold in the coming weeks.
Creed Speared Bandido to prevent him from using part of the stage as a weapon, but the piece of metal still ended up falling and hitting Swerve in the head unexpectedly.
Seeing Creed and Kofi in a Texas Death match after they spent so long working in a PG environment is going to be very entertaining.
Mercedes Mone had a segment calling out Marina Shafir so she could talk some trash ahead of their title match. They ended up getting into a fight that The CEO barely managed to win. We also got a promo from Nick Wayne.
The men's Blood and Guts match took place during the second hour of the show. One side was entirely made up of members of The Don Callis Family, while the other side was a group of people who do not always see eye to eye but set aside their differences for a common goal.
The Don Callis Family had the advantage after the coin flip. Here is the order of entry:
Throughout most of the match, it felt like the men were relying on weapons a lot less than the women, so this bout didn't quite reach the same level of chaos as early as the women did.
The pacing of the entrances and order of participants felt right. Having Fletcher begin the match while Ospreay came out last for his team was an interesting juxtaposition. You would usually expect those roles to be flipped with the heel and babyface.
The thing this bout did very effectively was showcasing the feud between Ospreay and Fletcher. They were not the only storyline in this match, but it felt like the most important one.
The final third of this match was definitely the best part. We saw weapons, explosions and bumps galore. Much like with the women, not a single person left this match unscathed.
It felt like all 12 guys had their own individual moments, which is not always an easy thing to do in a bout like this. Fletcher had Copeland tied up and gave him a mic. They forced him to surrender the match to prevent Fletcher from using a screwdriver on Ospreay's neck.
The match was over, but the carnage was not. Wardlow sent Allin flying off the top of the cage through a bunch of tables that were set up on the floor.
The Conglomeration and Jon Moxley had a segment that showed them appearing to join forces to take on The Cut.
Having Borden in a match like this so early in his career was a risky move for AEW.
Mercedes might not have been competing, but her outfit was covered in blood-stained designs anyway.
Allin and Borden had a special entrance video before Allin came to the ring. He also ran the NYC marathon on Friday with almost no preparation.
Allin was the first man to bleed, which is the least surprising sentence in this entire recap.
Copeland brought a chair with him and hit everyone on the opposing team as the crowd continued to sing his music.
The way Doyle and Davis threw Allin into the cage wall was bonkers.
Okada used a leaf blower to get rid of the thumbtacks in the ring.
Knight's coast to coast dropkick into a barbed wire chair was awesome.
Wardlow falling for Allin's trapped backpack while everyone else knew to be scared of it was hilarious.
Report: Raiders Sending Jeanty 'Wake-Up Call' ⏰
With the exception of a few random interviews and segments, and two short fights, the entire show was taken up by the two Blood and Guts matches.
Both bouts featured some wild moments, a lot of blood, and some storyline developments as AEW gets closer to Full Gear.
The women's Blood and Guts match outperformed the men's by a slight margin, but the most brutal thing we saw all night happened in the men's match when Allin was thrown off the cage through some tables.
Even though it was just two matches, we got to see 24 men and women go to battle inside the cage. It was a great night of action, especially for those of you who like the more violent side of AEW.
