Sean Strickland survives 60mph roll-over accident: ‘I didn’t have a helmet on’

Has the UFC just lost another one of its champions to injury? It certainly sounds like it based on new social media posts from their resident adrenaline junkie Sean Strickland.

Strickland took the middleweight belt off Khamzat Chimaev back in May 2026, defeating a drained and impotent "Borz" in another shocker of an upset win. The Las Vegas fighter immediately declared he was going to take time off to rehab an injured shoulder, and now he could need more time after suffering what he believes is a serious concussion from a side-by-side roll-over accident.

A video posted on Instagram showed a rough looking Strickland explaining what happened.

"I let him drive," he said. "He rolled us going like 60. We rolled like six times. That was from my head smacking the ground going 60. I didn't have a helmet on. I'm an idiot. That was just from rolling and smacking the concrete or the dirt."

"Im gonna take a little nap," the caption on the video read. "The other guy is on his way to the hospital."

Taking a nap after suffering a concussion is pretty much the worst thing you can do, but Strickland posted an update hours later.

"I think I'm okay," he said before adding. "That's the most fun I've had in a very f–king long time."

Strickland has a long history of hurting himself badly while adventuring outside the cage. His fighting career almost ended after a bad motorcycle accident in 2018, and a month doesn't go by where he's not falling down a mountain or almost taking shrapnel to the face while messing with bikes, skis, guns, and / or explosives.

The UFC was expected to book Strickland against Nassourdine Imavov soon, but if Strickland really did suffer a concussion, those plans could get pushed back a few months. That wouldn't be great for the company. With the number of injured and inactive champs on the roster, they recently had to have Valentina Shevchenko drop her belt so they could scrape together a Natalia Silva vs. Wang Cong women's strawweight title fight for UFC 332 in October.
