One of the most unheralded, and shortest duration, heavyweight champions in boxing history returns to the ring Friday night after a 25-month hiatus.

Andy Ruiz Jr.. who upset Anthony Joshua in "AJ's" U.S. debut in 2019 but lost a return bout six months later, is back in business to try and stake a claim to elite status in a fractured big-man division.

The division's four significant championship belts were tossed into oblivion when undisputed champ Oleksandr Usyk vacated his claims. And though they've all since been awarded, Ruiz is still seeking to reclaim a piece of what once was his.

He'll face once-beaten Polish export Damian Knyba in a scheduled 12-rounder atop a four-bout main card at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. that'll be streamed on DAZN.

Ruiz hasn't fought since a 12-round draw with Jarrell Miller in August 2024, while Knyba was unbeaten through his first 17 pro bouts before a third-round TKO loss to now-WBC champ Agit Kabayel in January.

Neither Ruiz nor Knyba are ranked among the top-10 heavyweights by Ring Magazine .
