Stephen Curry says he wants 'no drama' during season over unresolved extension talks with Warriors

Stephen Curry has spent his entire 17-year NBA career with the Golden State Warriors . So, when Curry became eligible for a two-year extension with the team in August, it was expected he would quickly sign again and re-up for another couple seasons.

But with training camp on the horizon, Curry has yet to sign a deal with the team. He's taken that track despite the Warriors reportedly giving Curry multiple options to contemplate , per ESPN.

While that uncertainty could cause panic among Warriors fans, Curry said he wants "no drama" to seep into the team if he doesn't sign the extension by the time the season starts, per ESPN.

"I don't want there to be no drama," Curry told ESPN on Wednesday. "No talking points. This team should be competitive and go win."

To further stress that point, Curry said the extension "is going to happen," and that he has an "obvious goal" to stick with the Warriors for the rest of his career. He's currently signed to a one-year, $62.5 million deal for the upcoming season.

Curry — who became eligible for a two-year, $136.7 million max deal in August — will greatly impact the team's cap room depending on what kind of deal he signs. The Warriors are currently projected to have roughly $100 million in cap space available next offseason. If Curry signs for his max, that figure would drop to around $45 million, per ESPN.

But the Warriors can create more flexibility depending on what moves the team makes in the coming months. Curry said that's among his biggest considerations as he waits to sign the extension. At his age — he will be 38 when the 2026-27 NBA season begins — Curry is placing a high emphasis on winning another championship, which could lead to him giving the Warriors more flexibility, as he laid out to ESPN.

"We're in a very interesting situation," Curry said. "All the different salary cap conditions of whether I sign for a max or less or whatever it is, I want to be on a competitive team. I want to have an opportunity to have some flexibility because we haven't had that in years past, the recent past."

Complicating matters is the Warriors' recent performance. While Curry has remained an elite player when healthy, the team missed the playoffs in two of the past three seasons. Curry also battled an injury last season, playing in just 43 games as the team limped to the finish line.

Given those concerns, the Warriors may need to add significant talent next offseason if the team hopes to make one more title run with Curry and Draymond Green . All of that is undoubtedly on Curry's mind as he determines his best path moving forward.
