Mets Top Prospect Keeps Slugging After Triple-A Promotion

The New York Mets made multiple moves at the trade deadline, and in the process they basically revamped their farm system, which was depleted by multiple successful promotions this year. They acquired 11 prospects in the process, and one in particular stands out.

That would be infielder Jefferson Rojas, who's been showing signs of "coming soon" rather than being "out on the horizon." The 21-year old Rojas was promoted to Triple-A recently, and he responded by hitting home runs in his first three games with Syracuse, according to Jesse Borek of MLB.com

Rojas went 7-for-12 in the process, and this was after hitting nine homers in 29 games for Double-A Binghamton. Triple-A teams typically have far more ex-major leaguers on their rosters, but this doesn't seem to be making a bit of difference to Rojas so far.

The infielder has been facing some of those hurlers, including Brian Keller, Alan Ranger and Tucker Davidson . They're not recognizable names, but it's the level of competition that matters here.

The Triple-A promotion also comes with better data collection that should help the Mets in their evaluation. He's put eight balls in play at an exit velocity of over 100 mph, per Borek, and that's big league stuff.

He also has 20 steals to go with 27 homers this year with three different teams, and the extra exposure is undoubtedly helping. The last time a Met had a minor league campaign with that many steals and homers was Ronny Mauricio back in 2022, but Mauricio's career has fizzled at this point.

If Rojas's story sounds familiar to Mets fans, it should. The Mets promoted outfielders Carson Benge and A.J. Ewing to Triple-A late last season, and Ewing in particular had noteworthy success. Benge struggled at the next level , but that certainly didn't stop him this year, as he's become a lineup staple who's got a legit chance to hit 20 homers.

The Mets may be thinking along the same lines with Rojas. According to Borek, he's played multiple infield positions, and the Mets are already looking at which position might be right for him.

The decision so far is third base, which would be an especially juicy storyline given that current third baseman Bo Bichette as an opt-out five days after the World Series ends. It's yet another development to follow in what looks like an even busier offseason for the Mets.
