Oct. 12 (UPI) -- A Chicago Bulls jersey Michael Jordan wore during the 1998 NBA Finals sold at auction for a record $14 million, Hunt Auctions announced Monday.
Jordan wore the jersey in Game 2 of the best-of-seven game series against the Utah Jazz on June 5, 1998, in Salt Lake City. He scored a game-high 37 points in the 93-88 triumph.
The red, black and white road jersey was sold through a private treaty sale -- with the seller and buyer directly negotiating its price.
The Bulls, who lost Game 1, won the series in six games. Jordan, who claimed his sixth and final title, averaged 32.3 points, 7,0 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game.
The sale price of the jersey, which was autographed by Jordan, set a record for the highest price paid for a piece of basketball memorabilia. It is the second highest price paid for a sports jersey.
Heritage Auctions set that record when it sold a New York Yankees jersey Babe Ruth wore during the 1932 World Series for $24.12 million in 2024.
Sotheby's sold a jersey Jordan wore during Game 1 of the 1998 NBA Finals sold for $10.1 million in 2022.
