Let the Caleb Wilson era begin in the Windy City.

Wilson and the Chicago Bulls defeated Devin Booker and the Phoenix Suns 124-117 in their preseason opener on Wednesday at the United Center. The final score took a backseat to the debut of the No. 4 overall pick of the 2026 NBA draft, though, and the North Carolina product scored in double figures.

Here is a look at how his numbers stacked up in the contest.

Broadcaster sorry for false LeBron rumor

Chicago hasn't advanced past the play-in tournament since the 2021-22 campaign and hasn't won a playoff series since the 2014-15 season. There hasn't been much to be excited about for the franchise for years, but that could change in 2026-27.

After all, Wilson is a high-flying foundational cornerpiece who could thrive for years to come. Even if the Bulls struggle from a record perspective this season, his potential on a team with young talent elsewhere with Matas Buzelis and Josh Giddey could provide reason for optimism.

And Wednesday was the first chance for fans to see him in person, even if it was just the preseason.

It wasn't all good, as Wilson struggled from the outside while missing all four of his three-point attempts. If he is going to fully live up to expectations, he will need to find a way to hit some shots from beyond the arc when defenders collapse on Buzelis and Giddey.

But he did more than enough to make up for the perimeter shooting woes.

Wilson's first basket was a fadeaway jumper, and he also mixed in a turnaround jumper and impressive reverse finish at the rim when attacking the basket. Finding different ways to score will be important, especially when he sees different defensive looks throughout his rookie campaign.

The rookie also gave the fans what they wanted when he broke free in transition and threw down a two-handed dunk. The high-flyer figures to play above the rim whenever possible, and he wasted little time putting on a show in his first game.

There is still plenty to work on, as the Bulls will surely want him to be more of a factor on the glass. Efficiency was also a concern at 6-of-15 from the field, although that will likely come with more experience.

Ultimately, there was plenty to be excited about for Wilson in his first game action.
