New Lakers Rumors Reveal Heat Exec Hired as Rob Pelinka's Assistant GM Ahead of NBA Season

The Los Angeles Lakers reportedly made an addition to the team's front office on Wednesday.

According to ESPN's Shams Charania , the Lakers hired former Miami Heat vice president of player personnel Eric Amsler as an assistant general manager under president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka.

Amsler previously spent over 22 years with the Heat organization, operating in several roles.

After graduating from Dickinson College in 1999, he first joined Miami as an intern ahead of the 2004-05 season.

Amsler eventually served as the team's scouting and information coordinator from 2005-07 before operating as a scouting and player personnel coordinator from 2007-14.

He was later promoted to director of scouting operations for the Heat in 2015, remaining in the position for three years.

Amsler then joined the front office of the Sioux Falls Skyforce, Miami's G League affiliate, in 2018 and remained with the squad until 2023.

He returned to the Heat organization that year, becoming their vice president of player personnel and remaining in the role before heading to the Lakers.

Pat Riley, Miami's team president, previously brought up Amsler when praising the team's ability to identify young talent in Oct. 2020.

"I really want to thank Eric Amsler, Chet Kammerer and Adam Simon, our scouting staff, all those guys that go out and search down, hunt down talent for the Miami Heat," Riley told reporters at the time. "I take very little credit for that. I just want to thank them so much for being able to fill up the cupboard with young talent."

Amsler is the latest addition to the Lakers' front office, as they previously hired Rohan Ramadas as an assistant general manager in May. Ramadas was the New Orleans Pelicans' vice president of strategy and operations before joining Los Angeles.

The Lakers will look to continue building around Luka Dončić as they attempt to make a fifth consecutive playoff appearance next season.
