Lakers' JJ Redick Recalls Quentin Grimes Mistakenly Entering Neighbor's Hamptons House in 2023

Before Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick had veteran guard Quentin Grimes on his roster, he tried to do him a solid earlier in his career.

During Monday's media day, Redick recalled a hilarious story from the summer of 2023 when he invited Grimes to his Long Island home to stay at his guest house for a workout. Grimes, who was entering his third season with the New York Knicks at the time, arrived to the house along with his friend while Redick was out playing golf.

"So I give him the [address], and I tell him where the key is to get in," Redick told Spectrum SportsNet (5:10 mark). "I said, 'When you walk in, there's a first-floor bedroom. There's a second-floor bedroom. Make yourself at home. There's a gym down in the basement. Everything you need.' Very clear."

However, when Redick got back to his place, he didn't find Grimes in his guest house.

"I go on his Instagram, and he's posted a picture from another house in my neighborhood of the pool, with the hashtag 'Hamptons Life' or something like that. So I tell him, 'Where the F are you, dude?'" Redick recalled. "They had gone into one of my neighbors' homes and gone into their guest house."

Despite the early faux pas, Grimes still made a strong impression on Redick and his family during their brief time together.

"We took him out to dinner that night with my kids and my wife, and we had a nice time," Redick said. "Then we were going to the gym the next morning, and we were traveling separately, so my wife called me at eight o'clock in the morning. She says, 'How do we ensure that our kids grow up to be like Quentin?' and that's a strong stamp of approval from Chelsea Redick."

Grimes is one of the many new faces that the Lakers will be integrating this season, but it sounds like Redick is already confident in his chances to fit right in as the team chases a spot in the playoffs.
