Moussa Kamissoko Commits to Syracuse MCBB, Program's 2nd 5-Star Prospect in Last Decade

The Syracuse University men's basketball program has landed one of its most significant recruits in years, securing a commitment from forward Moussa Kamissoko on Friday.

According to ESPN's Jeff Borzello , Kamissoko informed ESPN's Paul Biancardi on Friday of his intention to play his college basketball for the Orange.

Kamissoko is rated as a 5-star prospect by 247Sports , as well as the No. 14 overall player in the class of 2027.

Per Borzello, Kamissoko is new Syracuse head coach Gerry McNamara's first 5-star recruit, and he is only the second 5-star player to commit to Syracuse over the past decade.

Syracuse was once considered to be among the premier college basketball programs in the country, winning the national championship in 2003 and reaching the Final Four on six occasions from 1975 to 2016.

However, the Orange have not reached the NCAA tournament since 2021, which was legendary head coach Jim Boeheim's third-to-last season at the helm.

Adrian Autry took over following Boeheim's retirement in 2023, and only managed a record of 49-48 over three seasons before getting fired.

The Orange went just 15-17 last season on the heels of a 14-19 mark in 2024-25, which was the program's worst record since the 1968-69 campaign.

In an effort to turn things around, Syracuse hired McNamara, who was a key figure as a guard on the Orange's 2003 national title game.

McNamara spent the past two seasons as the head coach at Siena, and he led the Saints to the NCAA tournament last season.

It is clear that McNamara is already making a massive impact on the program by bringing in a talent the caliber of Kamissoko.

A 6'7", 180-pound wing from Geneva, Ohio, Kamissoko drew interest from many of the top programs in college basketball.

Per 247Sports , Kamissoko had scholarship offers from Kentucky, UConn, Alabama, Illinois, Louisville, Baylor, Florida State and Virginia, among many others.

If Kamissoko is a sign of things to come for Syracuse under McNamara, then it may not be long before the Orange are once again a big-time factor in March Madness.
