Pelle Larsson, Heat Agree to Contract Extension, Details and Salary Cap Impact Revealed

The Miami Heat and guard Pelle Larsson preempted his restricted free agency by agreeing to a long-term extension, according to ESPN's Shams Charania .

Larsson, who was in the final season of his rookie deal, will make $60 million over four years, and the final year (2030-31) is a mutual option.

The Swedish international saw his role with Miami significantly increase last year. He appeared in 70 games and saw his minutes climb from 14.2 to 26.4. He was sixth on the team in scoring (11.4 points) and fourth in assists (3.4).

Larsson still projects as a backup for the Heat following their busy offseason. Tim Hardaway Jr. and Andrew Wiggins are likely to start at the 2 and 3, respectively, and Klay Thompson will be a reserve at both positions.

Being proactive a year out from Larsson potentially hitting the market makes sense.

The Heat have oriented their present and future around Giannis Antetokounmpo, who can opt out in 2027, and Bam Adebayo, who can do the same in 2028. Keeping those two together will be expensive and limit what Miami can do elsewhere on the roster.

Having Larsson on the books through at least 2029-30 gives the front office some more cost certainty and ensures a solid role player will stick around for the next few years.

Larsson may instead prove to be a trade asset whose salary can be aggregated to make an upgrade to the squad. That's another luxury the new-look Heat don't exactly possess.
