“You Were Gutless” – Former Indiana Coach Slams Cathy Engelbert After Retirement Announcement

Cathy Engelbert 's retirement announcement has stirred up the WNBA world. As the league begins its search for a new leader, experts are slamming her over multiple controversies. The most recent addition is the former Indiana University Hoosiers interim head coach Dan Dakich.

In a recent YouTube video , Dakich discussed Engelbert's retirement announcement and comments from NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.

Adam Silver praised Engelbert's contributions to the league in his statement. The NBA commissioner said that the 61-year-old was part of the "most significant period of growth in the league's 30-year history." However, Dakich disagreed with Silver's assessment.

"I'll give you two words, Caitlin Clark . That's it. Ain't no more. You held the league back, lady. You were gutless. You've made that league a laughing stock," Dakich said.

The former Indiana University Hoosiers interim coach bluntly described Engelbert as "the worst commissioner in the history of professional sports." Dakich criticized Engelbert's stance on transgender athletes in women's sports.

"See, the W in WNBA stands for women. But Cathy Engelbert and her ilk [kind] can't actually define what a woman is. And that's a problem that ultimately caught up to her hate," Dakich said.

Slamming her further, Dakich added, "Are you nuts, lady? You're 61 years old, and you can't define what a woman is publicly because you're a coward. You are gutless. You are spineless. And now you are out."

Dan Dakich Believes Cathy Engelbert Was Unable To Handle Caitlin Clark

Clark's rise in basketball has been nothing short of astounding. The 2024 NCAA women's championship game featuring Clark drew more viewers than the men's final. When she entered the WNBA, the league's revenue model scaled up, while merchandise sales increased by 200% and the league garnered multi-million-dollar broadcast audiences.

Despite Caitlin Clark 's impact on the league, many experts believe Engelbert failed to advocate for her. Criticizing the WNBA commissioner, Dakich said

"Her retirement comes years after mounting controversies. Her inability to stand up for the golden goose, Caitlin Clark. It's been nothing but a train wreck. Players have mauled Clark out of jealousy. Fans ejected from games over well-later-disproven racist comments, which has been all b-lls–-t."

Cathy Engelbert will retire as WNBA commissioner at the end of this year, on December 31, 2026. Notably, reports have circulated that potential candidates are being shortlisted , and the search process could begin later this month.
