New Warriors Rumors on Stephen Curry Contract Talks, Jaren Jackson Jr. Trade Pursuit

The Golden State Warriors are reportedly leaving the ball in the court of star point guard Stephen Curry when it comes to contract negotiations.

During Tuesday's episode of The Hoop Collective , ESPN's Anthony Slater provided an update on Curry's expected contract extension and revealed that the Warriors are letting him decide his future with the franchise.

"They're not like negotiating with Steph Curry right now. They are saying, 'You can do this, you can do this, you can do this. If you want the one-year max, if you want the two-year max, if you want to wait, here's your menu. Pick off your menu,'" Slater said (5:24 mark).

Slater also revealed that the Warriors attempted to trade for star center Jaren Jackson Jr. before he was ultimately sent from the Memphis Grizzlies to the Utah Jazz at the deadline this past season.

"I'll give you one that is probably talked about least in the last few years of swings and misses: it's Jaren Jackson at the deadline," Slater said (11:05 mark). "They were kind of sniffing around that."

The 2026-27 season is the final year on Curry's current contract, and he's slated to make a league-high $62.6 million. This past Saturday, he officially became eligible for an extension of up to two years and $136.7 million. The 38-year-old recently told Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area that he hopes to finish his career in Golden State.

"There's no question I want to be here the rest of my career, and I'm pretty sure that's going to happen," he said. "... The deal and the contract stuff will happen at the right time, and we're not letting it be a distraction from our preparation for the season, and the fact that the team we're coming back with has a lot of familiarity."

Still, it's safe to say that the Warriors are not expected to contend for an NBA championship this season in the competitive Western Conference. While Golden State has maintained its veteran-laden roster, the team has failed in multiple trade pursuits over the past few years that would've added another star next to Curry.

As Curry nears the end of his legendary career, the Warriors will have to figure out a way to bring more talent to the Bay Area so they can return to title contention before the four-time champion steps away for good.
