D'Angelo Russell reportedly waived by Grizzlies 2 months after trade from Wizards

D'Angelo Russell's time with the Memphis Grizzlies is over before he could even play a game.

According to ESPN's Shams Charania , Russell is being waived by the Grizzlies as the team needed flexibility with its roster. The 30-year-old guard was dealt to Memphis by the Washington Wizards in July as part of a trade involving six teams and 11 players .

The move has been coming as Yahoo Sports' Kelly Iko reported in July that the two sides were working together to help Russell find a new home. His next team will be his sixth since entering the NBA in 2015-16 with the Los Angeles Lakers — one of two teams, along with the Brooklyn Nets , where he's had two stints.

Russell played 26 games with the Mavericks last season, averaging a little over 19 minutes per night and 10.2 points, 4 assists and 2.3 rebounds.

After being dealt to the Wizards at the trade deadline, he did not play again during the 2025-26 season as the sides discussed a potential buyout. That never happened and Russell exercised his $6 million player option for this season before the summer trade.
