A game-worn high school jersey from Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant sold for more than $2 million at auction.

Cllct's Darren Rovell noted how much the jersey had risen in value:

The $2.2 million price tag is the highest-ever for a high school jersey and nearly double the previous record. The St. Vincent-St. Mary's jersey LeBron James donned for his famous Sports Illustrated cover reached $1.3 million at auction in 2024.

Bryant's exploits at Lower Merion High School in Pennsylvania made him a national star before he arrived in the NBA. As a senior, he was a McDonald's All-American and earned multiple national player of the year honors.

The Charlotte Hornets selected Bryant 13th overall in the 1996 NBA draft but traded him to the Lakers for Vlade Divac. Bryant preferred to land in L.A., and general manager Jerry West recognized early on the teenager had the potential to be special.

Needless to say, West was proven correct.
