NBA insider believes the Spurs are considering starting all three of their star guards
The Spurs could go all-out with their starting lineup in the 2026-27 season.
Dylan Harper broke out as one of the San Antonio Spurs ' best players during the 2025-26 season. Considering it was his rookie season, it was natural for him to play a smaller role compared to veteran guard De'Aaron Fox and second-year standout Stephon Castle.
However, the 2026 Playoffs proved that Harper was ready for a shot at a starter spot. To start the 2026-27 season, the likely backcourt is still Fox and Castle, but it seems that the idea of starting them alongside Harper has been floating around.
The Spurs could start with all of their standout guards at the same time
In the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks , Harper was arguably the best offensive player for the Spurs . He has a natural ability to get to the rim with his speed and craftiness while also having elite finishing in his skill set.
Harper has the potential to become one of the standout offensive guards in the league. At the same time, he is also a decent defender, so he is easy to plug into a lineup. In fact, it opens up the possibility of him starting alongside his fellow guards.
Since both Harper and Castle can play bigger than usual with their length and athleticism, it is feasible to start them all together. It would be a headache for some people, but it could work out well in the end.
"It's no secret he's not going to be satisfied coming off the bench. The people in his camp aren't going to be happy. This kid, who's a potential rising superstar, wants to be in the starting lineup," Tim MacMahon said about the Spurs' guard trio on The Hoop Collective .
"They're going to have to get him in the starting lineup; I don't think it'll be at the expense of De'Aaron Fox or Stephon Castle. They'll have to start those 3 guards and figure out the rotation from there."
It is a valid point to make because the Spurs could feasibly run that trio at the same time. With Victor Wembanyama as their center, they already have the size in the paint, so playing energetic defense could help them maintain their level on either side of the floor.
