USA wins 5th straight FIBA Women’s World Cup in front of record crowd

The mission is complete. Despite some early adversity, the USA women's basketball came back to dominate France in the second half en route to its fifth consecutive gold medal in the FIBA Women's Cup .

Team USA's 97-79 win over France was the United States' 36th straight win in the FIBA Women's World Cup, adding to the team's dominance.

Following the win, New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart was named MVP, adding to the trophy case of one of the most decorated women's basketball players of all time.

Stewart and USA guard Jackie Young were both named to the FIBA Women's World Cup All-Star 5, along with Iyana Martin of Spain, Germany's Leonie Fiebich , and Gabby Williams of France.

Stewart finished the championship game with 22 points, while Young added 18.

The 2026 FIBA Women's World Cup in Berlin shattered attendance records, with a total of 236,015 fans attending games throughout the tournament. The previous record was set during the 2022 FIBA Women's World Cup in Sydney, Australia, with 145,519 attendees.
