Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green didn't buy Dillon Brooks' explanation after the Phoenix Suns wing said he wanted to "de-escalate" a tense situation in Monday's game between the two teams.

"You weren't trying to de-escalate," Green said on his podcast. "You were trying to be the villain. But then don't go to the media like 'I was de-escalating.' Like, that's wack, and that type of energy will not ever be respected."

Green said he felt compelled to respond after Suns center Khaman Maluach knocked him to the court. The four-time All-Star grabbed Maluach around the waist and threw him down.

From there, Brooks intervened and created another flash point.

To Green's point, things appeared to be settling down quickly after he got his retribution. The moment was already de-escalating.

Even if he had the best intentions in mind, Brooks' reputation preceded him as well. The 30-year-old revels in his "villain" label and riling up opposing players. When he inserts himself into the picture, you're assuming he's not trying to play peacemaker.

The matter is pretty much closed for the time being. The NBA reportedly isn't suspending Green.

The next meeting between Golden State and Phoenix on Dec. 28 could have some extra spice, though.
