Former Washington Wizards Forward Has Unfiltered Take About the Team’s Direction After Offseason Moves

The Washington Wizards are determined to get out of the league's basement. In the past few months, they acquired Trae Young (eventually giving him a lucrative extension) and Anthony Davis before selecting AJ Dybantsa with the No. 1 pick in this summer's NBA Draft.

Despite these moves, Montrezl Harrell remains unconvinced about the Washington Wizards ' chances to compete in 2026-27, as the former NBA journeyman questioned the team's roster construction.

"I don't know what the hell Washington is doing, to be honest with you. They got the young kid AJ Dybantsa, but he's at the three. You bring over Deandre Ayton , but you already drafted the young kid Alex Sarr . Then you have Anthony Davis, but you have another center on the bench in Tristan Vukčević. Now you have four centers because you also have Jonas Valančiūnas. Your only backup to Anthony Davis right now is Anthony Gill , and then you have Trae Young with no legitimate two-guard playing," Harrell told Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson.

"But when you look at that bench, you can beat them with that every night. It's going to be something where the coach is going to have to coach that team. There is a lot of uncertainty down there. I don't see them being in any serious conversation in the East. Maybe they can get into a play-in situation, but I don't see them being a crazy East contender. I just don't know what their team identity is," he ended.

While Montrezl Harrell is pessimistic about the Washington Wizards this upcoming season, the same can't be said for Darren Collison , who believes they're a dark horse team in the Eastern Conference.

"The Washington Wizards are gonna surprise a lot of people in the East… I think Trae Young is gonna have a really good season. I think Anthony Davis- his ability to protect the paint and be that force down low is gonna take a lot of pressure off of AJ (Dybantsa) just to be the guy. AJ doesn't have to be the guy; AJ is gonna be an added asset," Collison said.

"They have depth. And I always feel that the teams with the most depth have the most success. So they have youth, they have veteran leadership, and they have two guys in Trae Young and AD who have been All-Stars, who have played at a high level in the playoffs," he ended.
