The 10 Most Expensive Michael Jordan Sports Card and Memorabilia Sales

There is no more iconic athlete in professional sports history than Michael Jordan, and his enduring legacy has made his sports cards and memorabilia big business in recent years.

To that point, his jersey from Game 3 of the 1998 NBA Finals is currently up for auction at JOOPITER , the auction house founded by Pharrell Williams. The auction is scheduled to end on Sept. 29, and currently has a bid of $10 million.

That's a staggering price to pay for a piece of sports history, but it still has some climbing to do to become the most expensive sale of all time for a Michael Jordan item.

Sale Price: $12,932,000 | Date: August 2025 | Grade: PSA 6

An investment group that included Kevin O'Leary from the TV show Shark Tank made this the highest price ever paid for a sports card, overtaking the $12.6 million price tag paid for an SGC 9.5 copy of the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card in August 2022.

The sale price and the buyer group speak to how sports cards have transcended the collector space and become a legitimate investment tool in recent years, which has helped drive the premium market.

Sotheby's estimated that the Game 1 jersey from the 1998 NBA Finals would fetch between $3-5 million, but the final sale price more than doubled that projection, and briefly became the most valuable jersey sale of all time. The Bulls actually lost that game, though Jordan dropped a game-high 33 points.

Jordan gave Bulls PR executive Tim Hallam a signed, game-worn sneaker after the clinching game of his first NBA title in 1991, and the pair continued the tradition for his subsequent five Finals-clinching games, thus creating this unique single-shoe collection.

Thanks to advanced photo matching available today, this jersey was confirmed to be worn across a five-month span that stretched from December 1996 to April 1997. All told, it was linked to 17 total games and possibly up to 20, making it the most extensively matched game-worn Jordan jersey analyzed by authentication marketplace MeiGray .

The 1997-98 Upper Deck Game Jersey inserts were a groundbreaking addition to the hobby space, marking the first time game-worn jersey cards were available in basketball card packs. While the standard set is not autographed, Series 2 packs featured an autographed version of the Jordan card, hand-numbered to 23. Multiple copies have fetched over $1 million, but this is the highest recorded sale.

This jersey has been successfully linked to Jordan's second and fourth NBA preseason games, and represents the only photomatched jersey from his rookie season to ever surface at auction. It has not been fully verified, but MeiGray also provided a letter stating they " believe " this is the first jersey ever worn in the NBA by Jordan.

It doesn't have the accompanying autographs like the No. 1 card on this list, but this is another 1-of-1 featuring MJ and Kobe side-by-side with logoman patches. It also has the added significance of 2003 being the first year that dual logoman cards were added to the Upper Deck Exquisite line, which carried a $500 per pack price tag when they were released.

This is the only Jordan "Dream Team" jersey ever photomatched, as it was worn in the semifinals of the 1992 Olympics against Lithuania when he tallied 21 points, four assists and three rebounds. The jersey is inscribed to Team USA teammate Karl Malone, who had an entire "Dream Team" collection he sold through Goldin Auctions.

An exclusive contract with Upper Deck means that signed 1986-87 Fleer rookie cards from Jordan are few and far between. He signed nine of them during a private signing in 2024, which has been confirmed by Goldin founder and CEO Ken Goldin. One of them sold for $2.5 million by JOOPITER and this one sold for $2.7 million, while the others have not yet surfaced, according to ESPN .

The growing demand for high-end sports cards and memorabilia, and specifically for Jordan items, means that this list will continue to be reshaped in the coming years as more pieces of history surface at auction.

For now, $2.7 million is the cut line to be one of the 10 most expensive Jordan items sold, at least until that Game 3 jersey sale is finalized and the top five takes on a new look.
