LeBron James partners with PGA Tour to launch new initiative supporting Akron’s underprivileged families ahead of the new season

LeBron James, the NBA icon, might be busy gearing up for seemingly his last season on the field but he has continued to look for new opportunities to serve his hometown Akron better. Ahead of the new season, LeBron James and his wife, Savannah James, have partnered with PGA Tour for an innovative event.LeBron James makes a new move for his foundation as he dedicates himself to helping underprivileged families in AkronA few days ago, the LeBron James’ Family Foundation took to its social media to make a post that read as, “LeBron James is partnering with the PGA Tour to bring a new golf event to his hometown of Akron ⛳️ The inaugural LeBron James Family Foundation Invitational will take place July 6-7, 2027, at Firestone Country Club, combining competition with mentorship opportunities for I Promise students. Proceeds will benefit the Akron community.”As per reports, the invitational will also have both professional and amateur golfers from the PGA Tour's Pathway to Progression program.PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp opened up about partnering with LeBron James’ foundation as he said, "The PGA TOUR believes golf can create opportunity, change lives and bring communities together…LeBron and the LeBron James Family Foundation have shown what is possible when that commitment is backed by action, and this partnership brings that shared vision to life.”He added, “By connecting young people in Akron with our sport and supporting talented, up-and-coming athletes pursuing their dreams through our Pathway to Progression program, we are creating an event that honors Firestone's history and legacy while helping shape golf's future."The exciting event will also have many students belonging to LeBron James’ I PROMISE School participating in the event as proceeds from the event will go towards the communities LeBron James has been donating to for the last two decades.LeBron James and his wife, Savannah James, never forget the community they came from in Akron, OhioLeBron James and his wife, Savannah James, have both been dedicated towards their community in Akron, Ohio, for over the last two decades.As LeBron James’ fortune grew ever since he was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers, the former Los Angeles Lakers’ icon remained committed to giving back to his community that he left behind in Akron.Back in 2004, LeBron James and his wife, Savannah James, set up the LeBron James’ Family Foundation in Akron.Fourteen years later, in 2018, the two set up I PROMISE school which takes care of education for children coming from underprivileged backgrounds in Akron.The I PROMISE schools also provide opportunities to participate in sports for students.LeBron James and Savannah James have changed the lives of thousands across Akron as they continue to inspire more and more people around them.Get the latest Sports News and Live updates.
