Angel Reese makes WNBA history (again!) with 500 rebounds in a season

COLLEGE PARK, GA ― Angel Reese 's record-breaking WNBA season continues with another historic feat.

On Saturday, Reese became the first player in league history to secure 500 rebounds in a single season. The Dream forward had 495 rebounds ahead of a matchup against Chicago , but was on a mission from the opening tip.

Reese's record-sealing rebound came in the 1:50 minute of the second quarter. Reese appeared to cause a deflection on a ball and then grabbed a defensive rebound, giving her 500 total boards this season.

Setting records is not new to Reese. She's been achieving them throughout the 2026 season. On Sunday, Aug. 30, Reese recorded her 29th double-double of the season in the Atlanta Dream 's 89-81 win over the Minnesota Lynx . She worked her way up to 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds at the 5:40 mark of the fourth quarter, setting a new WNBA single-season double-doubles record . Alyssa Thomas previously held the record (28), which she set in 2023 during a 40-game regular season.

On Monday, Aug. 24, during the Dream's 78-71 win over the Los Angeles Sparks , Reese set a WNBA single-game record with 26 total rebounds (18 defensive and eight offensive boards). The same day, Reese also set a new single-season rebounding record with 458 total rebounds. Reese surpassed the previous mark of 451 rebounds set by Las Vegas Aces center A'ja Wilson in 2024.

The aforementioned milestones are not the only ones Reese has achieved in 2026. She reached 900 career rebounds in only 71 games on May 29, the fastest to that mark in WNBA history. She scored the 1,000th point of her WNBA career in the Dream's 91-75 win over Connecticut on June 2.

"Anything that goes up is mine," Reese said on Aug. 24. "I want to be one of (the best) when I walk away from the game. So just being able to … be consistent every night is something I'm looking forward to doing."

Reese, who is fresh off winning gold with Team USA at the FIBA World Cup , is having a huge year. She also released a Barbie Doll that debuted in July amid a career year with the Dream.

The forward, selected out of LSU with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 draft by the Chicago Sky , is averaging a double-double for the third consecutive season, bolstered by a career-high 16.5 points, 12.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.8 steals through 41 games. She leads the league in total rebounds, offensive rebounds (5.1 per game) and double-doubles (30). Reese is also third in steals per game.

"Angel is smashing double-double records. All the rebound records, single-game rebound records. She's having the best season of her career. From All-W perspectives, she should be on that. Defensive team. Defensive player of the year," Dream head coach Karl Smesko said on Sept. 17.
