Allen Iverson Welcomes Back 76ers PA Announcer Matt Cord for LeBron James' 1st Season in New Video

The Philadelphia 76ers announced Wednesday that longtime public address announcer Matt Cord is returning for his 29th and final season in the fall.

Sixers legend Allen Iverson and several current Sixers stars, including Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid and VJ Edgecombe, welcomed Cord back in a video shared by the team:

Cord announced in March that the 2025-26 season would be his last, but he reversed course ahead of what promises to be an exciting campaign in Philly.

In a statement provided to NBC Philadelphia, Cord said, "I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to return to the mic as PA announcer for 76ers for one more season. Serving in this role for the past 28 years has been a dream come true, and I have been fortunate to witness so many memorable moments from the best seat in the house. This is going to be a special year, and I can't wait to be back at Xfinity Mobile Arena with you all. Let's go, 76ers!"

The 76ers were one of the NBA's busiest teams during the offseason, and they could be the most improved team in the league this coming season as well.

In addition to acquiring five-time All-Star Jaylen Brown in a trade with the Boston Celtics, the Sixers signed one of the all-time greats in LeBron James in free agency.

With a projected starting lineup of James, Brown, Maxey, Embiid and Edgecombe, the 76ers figure to be among the top teams in the Eastern Conference, and they are undoubtedly championship contenders.

Should the Sixers live up to their potential, there is a chance Cord could be on the call for the organization's first NBA Finals appearance since 2001 and first championship since 1983.
