New Celtics Rumors on 1st-Round Lottery Pick Signing Contract, Updated Roster & Depth Chart

Ahead of the start of NBA training camp, the Boston Celtics reportedly added some youth to their roster.

Per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Celtics have agreed to a deal with former Sacramento Kings guard Devin Carter, who was the No. 13 pick in the 2024 NBA draft. Carter reportedly will be competing for a roster or two-way spot in training camp.

Following the addition of Carter, Boston's updated depth chart looks like this:

After a nondescript rookie campaign, Carter appeared to still be in Sacramento's future plans when the team exercised his third-year option prior to the 2025-26 season. He played in 38 games during his sophomore campaign with 12 starts, averaging 8.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 18.4 minutes of action. He set a career-high with 29 points on six three-pointers in a win over the Golden State Warriors in April. However, the Kings traded him to the Atlanta Hawks during the 2026 draft, and he was waived last week.

The Celtics already have a strong backcourt with two-way star point guard Derrick White and sixth man Payton Pritchard. The team also added veteran floor general Mike Conley over the offseason to provide extra depth.

Still, Boston will have to replace the production of star shooting guard Jaylen Brown after trading him to the Philadelphia 76ers. Third-year guard Baylor Scheierman is expected to take his spot in the starting lineup, though he averaged just 5.5 points across 77 games and 20 starts last season.

Carter will have the chance to prove his worth during training camp as the Celtics try to ensure they have what it takes to return to title contention during the 2026-27 campaign.
