Anthony Davis' debut with the Washington Wizards was a successful one with a 128-116 win over the Milwaukee Bucks, but one thing he took notice of was the home crowd at Capital One Arena.

Davis praised the fans who were in attendance, but told reporters he would have liked to see it be "a little more packed" and joked there were times last season when it looked like "'Dress Like a Seat Night' in here."

Warriors, Heat, on Wrong Side of History 😬

Monumental Sports, which owns the Wizards, notes Capital One Arena can hold 20,000 fans for the various pro sports teams in the Washington D.C. area.

The listed attendance for Wednesday's season-opening game between the Bucks and Wizards was 18,805, according to Basketball Reference . It's the ninth-biggest crowd among the 14 teams that have played a home game so far.

One reason the Wizards might have fallen short of a sellout was the absence of No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa. He suffered an ankle sprain in the preseason finale on Oct. 16 that kept him out of the season opener.

But this is still a Wizards team with good star power, like Davis and Trae Young, that it's a bit of a surprise there were some empty seats for the first game.

Another thing that probably didn't help was that the Bucks, after trading Giannis Antetokounmpo in the offseason, were the opponent.

It can also take time for a franchise that has struggled like the Wizards have for an extended period to win back fan enthusiasm. They haven't finished with a winning record since the 2017-18 season and went 50-196 over the past three seasons combined.

Wednesday was an encouraging sign for what this Wizards team, led by Davis and Young, can become as long as they stay healthy.

Davis put up 34 points and 12 rebounds in his first game since Jan. 8 when he was still with the Dallas Mavericks. Young had 20 points and 13 assists in 38 minutes.

When Dybantsa eventually gets added into the mix, the Wizards will look a lot more interesting than they have in a long time.
